Someone asked me recently what advice I would have for people my age (early 20’s).
“Being the good girl/guy always pays off”.
I remember growing up and people making fun of how I lived a life pleasing to Christ. The craziest thing is that those that laughed are emailing and texting me now for life advice. Their “live for the moment” brought them lifetime consequences and heartache while my “live for eternity” brought me to where I am today. Don’t get me wrong. We all have those “live for the moment” days. However, God intends for us to listen to the Holy Spirit and get ourselves back on track.
That’s the point of living by grace through faith which is how we obtained salvation.
Grace isn’t just meant to rescue us but to get us back on track so we can make better decisions. That’s why being the good girl always pays off because grace is on your side. In this society, it seems as if being cunning and deceitful is how we can make it to the top. However, people who think like this have the mindset that they are in competition with someone else. Are you busy competing with people or busy working to glorify God in your everyday life?
I see people casting their sisters & brothers aside for positions, titles, and material things. Leave God out of that foolishness because God never intended us to do evil in order to obtain the next level. Many people obtain these next level things and want to label them as blessings when we fought tooth and nail on our own to get them. We didn’t pray. We didn’t ask God. We just wanted to do our own thing.
Being the good girl/guy is not cool by society’s standards because it isn’t “Me-focused”. Being the good girl/guy is making God the center of what we do, no matter what others think. It’s about recognizing others and giving to others. It’s about not being afraid to stand up for what you believe in.
It’s not about doing what’s right because that’s just what you’re supposed to do. You have to believe in what you’re doing. Being the good girl/guy is a lifestyle. It’s about being good because you believe in being good. You believe that good is right. When you believe in what you’re doing, you will be less shaky on turning the other way. The enemy wants us to believe that cutting corners and making unmoral decisions here and there won’t affect us. However, integrity is the #1 key to being a good girl/guy.
It’s about doing the right thing because it’s who you are within. It’s not about appearing. It’s about being.
Don’t do evil and expect God to bless it. I was listening to a rapper talk about how he would pray to God to keep him in the streets while he was killing members of his community. God doesn’t bless evil. He blesses what mimics His character. You don’t have to do what everyone else does to win.
You can do what’s right and come out on top. Matter of fact, the bible says that with God ALL things are possible.
Being the good girl/guy does the following:
1. Positions you with God’s favor which is priceless
2. Keeps you from regretting choices that don’t fit where you’re going
3. Keeps you focused on living for eternity instead of living for now
4. Helps you to set an example for others that living for God is the best way to live
5. Allows God to do what He needs to do so that His will can be fulfilled within you
I’m going to leave you with five scriptures for you to focus on.
Jesus looked hard at them and said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.” – Matthew 19:26 (MSG)
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. -1 John 4:1 (NJKV)
“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied withgetting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. -Matthew 6:30-33 (MSG)
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. -Hebrews 11:6 (KV)
